John`s almost back. I  have successfully completed the Kinfolk Monsoon season technical Tokyo skid out training course, so in celebration we are having a party at Le Baron on Sunday. I am down here in Kagoshima city, Kyushu. Its one of the most southern points on the main cluster of Japans islands. Its a small city compared to Tokyo. You get recognized by people you`ve never met a day after seeing them once across a busy steet. 32 years ago today. NYC went dark. Unlike other blackouts that affected the region, namely the Northeast Blackout of 1965 and the Northeast Blackout of 2003, the 1977 blackout was localized to New York City and the immediate surroundings. The 1977 blackout, unlike the 1965 and 2003 blackouts, resulted in city-wide looting and other disorder, including arson. I found this book in a pile someone left out on their stoop. Written in 1964 by Jack Douglas, who was a famous comedy writer back in the day. It’s the charming tale of an American guy, his japanese wife and their son traveling to Tahiti and Japan. The first clue that this book is from a different time is the the word “Oriental” right there on the cover.
